Cannes, port and old quarter
Cannes, view of the Le Suquet (the old quarter) and the old port.
Cannes is a town on the Côte d’Azur (the French Riviera), most famous for its international film festival and awards held here every year in May. Once a small, quintessential French Mediterranean town, Cannes started to become a resort town for the wealthy in the late 18th century. By the end of the 20th century, it had become a popular summer beach destination for the masses. The old quarter of the city has retained its graceful old charm, while the newer sections are gracefully cosmopoltanism.
Cannes has grown into a sizeable city. Highly worth visiting is the old quarter, named Le Suquet, which is the original village built around a hill. On top of the hill are the remnants of a medieval castle, and a small church.
