Between the Pannonian plain and the Mediterranean sea, in the southern part of Central Europe lies a small and beautiful country – Croatia. Croatia borders Hungary and Slovenia to the north, Serbia to the north-east, and Bosnia and Herzegovina to the east. Croatia’s population amounts to 4.5 million. The capital of Croatia is the city of Zagreb which is located in the central part of the country. The other important cities are Rijeka – the largest and most important port, Split, Osijek and Dubrovnik which represents Croatia’s cultural and historical treasure. Specific about Croatia is it’s climate, in fact, Croatia has three climate zones: the interior is moderately rainy, the highest mountains are characterized by a forest climate while the coasts and the areas in the vicinity of the sea have a pleasant Mediterranean climate with a large number of sunny days. But the most fascinating thing about Croatia is her beautiful nature with many natural heritages and treasures. Croatia has one of the most impressive coasts in Europe with 1185 islands, islets, coves, capes, cliffs and reefs, and 25 national and nature parks. In addition, there are many historical and cultural remains and notabilities that are protected under the UNESO’s security. For tourists, Croatia has three highlighted regions: Istria, Dalmatia and the region of Kvarner.

Istria is Croatia’s largest peninsula situated on the western coast of the Adriatic sea. Most of the istrian territory belongs to Croatia except the regions of Izola, Potrotož, Piran and Koper which are part of Slovenia. The region’s capital is Pazin while the biggest and most important city of Istria is Pula. Amongst other well known tourist destinations you can visit Umag, Poreč and Rovinj.

Located between the Istrian peninsula and the Northen Croatian cost you can find the region of Kvarner. The region embraces the territory between the riviera of Opatija and the Northern Adriatic coast. The main islands within the gulf of Kvarner are Cres, Krk, Lošinj, Rab and Pag. Crikvenica, Kraljevica, Selce and Senj.

Finally, the most important tourist region is Dalmatia located on the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea, situated mostly in modern Croatia. Dalmatia is important for it’s historical and cultural heritage defined mostly by the era of the Ancient Roman Empire and the era of the Republic of Venice. Mostly known for it’s beautiful islands and wonderful beaches Dalmatia is among the most visited regions of Croatia.
