In particular my plans at present are to travel via train from Interlaken to Venice…Whilst not too far away on a map I’m sure the alps may make it a little more difficult. What’s the best way to do this?

Travel through Bern or Lucerne? Forget the train and just fly?

http://reiseauskunft… Look up the schedules here. It will give you the fastest/most direct routing. An overnight train often makes sense on routes between Switzerland and Italy as there aren’t many cheap flights. Try www.whichbudget.com to see which budget airlines fly which routes.
